First post of 2009!

Gas is cheap (currently), storms seem to be plentiful, I have a ton of time I can use to take off. The only fly in the ointment is lack of available funds . I may have to settle for "close to home" chases this year, but we'll see how that goes.


Anyhow, just wanted to get a 2009 post up and rolling.

Yes, I plan on chasing sometime this year....lol

Between projects at home and work I haven't had any time to think much about chasing this month. Yesterday was a severe day in Colorado, and today looks like the tornado potential could be worse for folks in KS.

I can't make it out for this one either as I am stuck working. Hopefully in the next 3 weeks I will be taking some time off to chase. With gas prices as high as they are, I might not be so inclined to drive too far. We'll see!

Saturday Chase?

Just got home from work this morning, and was looking things over for a possible chase this afternoon. Initially, I'm concerned about the lack of moisture over what would be a central TX target area, and I also believe the timing of everything today is going to leave the main event till after dark, and I hate chasing at night. I'll eyeball things again when I wake up this afternoon, but I'm pretty sure at the moment today is a no go. Perhaps I can get some lightning pics from home when the storms roll through late tonight.

Weds 4-23 Moderate Risk

Interesting chase day today, but not for me....I have to work.

Todays Severe Potential

There is a slight risk area today around the border of OK and KS. Should be a very unstable air mass at the surface, but the lack of upper level support, and forecasted weakening of low level flow does not invoke high confidence. I'll be sitting this one out, which probably means it will be great up there...lol

Live Video on the blog

I played around today with live streaming video right here on the blog. I let Christa do her own talk show, while playing guitar in the back ground. Also briefly streamed live video of Texas Sunset....fun stuff! Maybe I should do guitar lessons online? heh

Check back often for live video. Never know what may be going on here now...lol

Why The Blog?

After playing around with streaming video and GPS plotting on the live chase page, I decided to experiment with blogging as an easy means of providing updates from the road during a chase. It seems I can send text and/or pics from my cell phone and have it posted immediately to the blog. Much easier than trying to edit an html page on the website from the side of the road somewhere in no-mans-land.

Only time will tell if this is going to be more work than its worth for chasing, but so far it seems doable. I also like that I can post pretty much whatever on here. Sort of like a journal (although I've never considered myself to be a journal/blogger kind of guy...lol)

Its so... "geeky."
